  • Our Philosophy

The Riverside Chiropractic philosophy is to provide effective, natural and drug free pain relief and health care.
We won't try and treat conditions we know can't be helped with chiropractic - we will refer you to other health professionals in order for you to receive the best outcome.

That is our primary concern - your health.

    What we do

Chiropractic is a science and philosophy that deals with the relationship between the spine and the nervous system and how that can affect one’s health as the nervous system controls your body. The body has an inborn ability to heal itself and Chiropractic helps to facilitate this process.

Your spine consists of 24 movable bones - between these bones are discs which act as shock-absorbers to protect your spine. The role of your spine is to house and in turn protect the spinal cord and allow you to move - it has to be strong yet flexible. Therefore the trade-off is that it can be easily damaged causing misalignments which can lead to Spinal Joint Dysfunction. Because spinal joint dysfunction can impact on the spinal cord, they may cause a breakdown in the messages travelling to and from the brain, this can in turn affect the function of your organs. It can result in pain, weakness, and muscle spasm. The absence of pain, however, does not mean nothing is wrong.

How you feel is not always a true reflection of how healthy you are.

    Your First Visit

Your first visit will consist of a spinal and general health assesment, followed by a comprehensive orthopaedic, neurologic, chiropractic and often radiologic examination to determine the level of the spinal joint dysfunction and to choose the correct technique to help you.

    How does it work?

A chiropractor will use an adjustment which is a light thrust applied to the joint to stimulate the nerve. The aim of this is to:

  • Relieve symptoms
  • Relieve pressure and irritation on sensitive nerves
  • Restore correct joint position and movement
  • FAQ

  • What is the “crack” noise?
  • It’s gas being released from the joint due to a pressure change that occurs during an adjustment. It is not the bones rubbing against each other.

  • Do I have to hear the “crack” noise?
  • No, we utilise a variety of techniques many of which do not make this noise.

  • How long will it take?
  • That depends on the type of problem and how long it has been there.

  • Do I need a programme of care?
  • Yes, problems do not resolve overnight. It takes time to restore correct joint position and movement as well as for muscles and ligaments to heal.

  • Will it hurt?
  • Chiropractic is virtually pain-free, however you may find certain adjustments uncomfortable momentarily.

  • Can I use my private health insurance?
  • Yes, we have a HICAPS machine and you just pay the gap.

  • Do I need to see a GP first?
  • No. Just come in! Bring along any recent x-rays to speed up your treatment.

  • Is it safe for pregnant women and children?
  • Yes, techniques are modified to accommodate for pregnancy. Your chiropractor has been specifically trained in this area. Research has shown that women who receive chiropractic adjustments in their third trimester were able to carry and deliver their child with much more comfort. Chiropractic care has been shown to significantly reduce labour time for women who received care throughout their pregnancy. In other research it has been shown that 80% of newborns had some form of nerve dysfunction and 95% had cervical (neck) strain.
Chiropractic can help with Colic, an unsettled baby, breastfeeding and attachment issues, recurrent ear aches, just to name a few. It can also be extremely beneficial to have babies and children checked to ensure that they have a healthy spine.
Please view this short video for more information.

  • Can this help my back at work?
  • Of course.

  • Is it safe for the elderly?
  • Yes. In recent research it was shown that 44% of those receiving Chiropractic care reported having arthritis compared with 66% in the non-chiropractic care group. Following up these groups 3 years later, less than 5% of those who used chiropractic care were in a nursing home, while a staggering 48% of those who did not use chiropractic care had been admitted to a nursing home.
